Making Money by Testing Websites: A Realistic Guide for Beginners
Is a website or mobile app easy to use? Can users find the feature they are looking for? Is the payment screen understandable? Is it difficult to fill out a form?
Companies can get feedback from real users to answer such questions. Some research platforms pay participants who complete certain tasks and describe their experiences.
This method does not require being a software developer. However, it is important to be able to observe carefully, follow instructions and express thoughts clearly.
How to get started?
1. Learn the types of tests.
- Finding a specific product on a website
- Performing an action on the mobile application
- Evaluating a registration or payment process
- Describing the user experience with a screen recording
- Participate in usability research by answering specific questions
2. Create your profile correctly.
Research companies may select participants based on age, profession, device, country, shopping habits or other criteria. Having an accurate profile can make it easier for you to be matched to appropriate tests.
3. Complete the missions carefully.
Instead of just saying “it was good” or “I didn't like it” during the test, explain what you did, what you expected, and where you had difficulty.
Which platforms are available?
UserTesting is one of the well-known platforms for website and app testing. The application process includes stages such as creating a profile, a short trial test and payment account setup.
However, there is an important limitation for participants from Türkiye: UserTesting sends payments to a verified PayPal account. According to PayPal's official Türkiye page, customers in Türkiye cannot send or receive money. Therefore, it would not be correct to assume that someone residing in Türkiye can receive payments from this platform.
The situation may be different for those who legally reside abroad or have a valid payment infrastructure. However, opening a fake account in another country or providing false residence information is not a solution.
Those who want to work from Türkiye can evaluate the research platforms that use bank transfer or payment methods legally supported in their own country by verifying the payment method in advance.
Startup cost and revenue
A computer or compatible phone, microphone and stable internet connection may be sufficient. Some tests may require a special application or browser extension.
Fee per test; Varies depending on process, length, complexity and customer demand. UserTesting also states that the cost of each test is shown to the participant in advance and payments for successfully completed tests are generally made within 14 days.
But that doesn't mean you can find tests every day. Some people may receive very few tests; Some may not be able to find a job for a long time because there is no suitable profile or demand.
Risks and signs of fraud
- Stay away from sites that ask for high fees in advance to participate in tests.
- Do not share bank passwords, card PINs or unnecessary sensitive personal information.
- Check that the test invitation actually came from the relevant platform.
- Verify payment method and minimum payment requirements before applying.
- Be careful if testing asks for access to your real personal accounts or sensitive data.
In case of earning regular income in Türkiye, tax liabilities should also be evaluated separately.
Who is it not suitable for? It may not be suitable for people who do not want to express their thoughts out loud, have difficulty following instructions, or expect a regular and high income.
