For Those Who Want to Download YouTube Videos Regularly: Set Up Your Own Download Center with MeTube
Platform: Can be deployed with Docker on Windows, macOS, and Linux; web interface
Program: MeTube
For content creators, managing video files can sometimes be more troublesome than editing the video.
There are long videos on one side, and broadcast recordings, audio files and playlists on the other. Moreover, when downloading different files, it is necessary to keep track of which process is completed and which gives an error.
MeTube is an open source tool to manage video downloads through the browser, which you can run on your own computer or on a server you control.
The program uses the yt-dlp infrastructure. This infrastructure is used to download video and audio content from supported sites.
The most important difference of MeTube is that you do not have to manage all the operations by typing them on the command line. You can add links, monitor the download queue, and edit supported options through a web interface.
For example, you want to make backups of the videos you publish on your own YouTube channel. You can follow downloads from a single interface by adding supported links to MeTube.
Main areas of use are as follows:
-
Managing the download queue.
-
Examining supported playlists.
-
Selecting the contents to download from the list.
-
To track download status.
-
Edit file naming conventions.
-
Manage audio or video output on supported content.
Current development: The October 9, 2026 release of MeTube includes a new feature to review playlists and select items to download before creating a queue. There is also an update to the FFmpeg component used for the confirmation mechanism for clearing failed download records and video trimming.
There is a detail here: MeTube is not a tool that can be installed and used immediately like an ordinary phone application. May require basic knowledge of Docker and network settings. Technical assistance may be required for initial installation.
There is also a copyright issue. Use this tool to backup your own videos or manage the content you have permission to download. When downloading other people's videos, pay attention to the terms of use and copyrights of the relevant platform.
