How Safe is it to Give Artificial Intelligence Control of Your Computer?
Artificial intelligence no longer just answers questions. Some tools can work with files, run commands, perform operations between applications, and automate software development processes.
But there is an important problem here: What happens if the artificial intelligence gives the wrong command, deletes the wrong file, or executes a malicious instruction?
One of the striking issues in Ars Technica's news about Microsoft's 2026 Build announcements is isolated work environments called Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC). It is stated in the news that this approach aims to keep the access of artificial intelligence agents within certain limits.
An isolated environment (sandbox) is a security approach for running a program without granting unrestricted access to the entire host system.
Why is this idea important?
Giving an artificial intelligence agent access to only the necessary files and tools, rather than granting permissions to your entire computer, can provide a more controlled approach.
For example:
-
An encoding agent can only run in the project folder.
-
Can operate in the test environment, access to personal files may be restricted.
-
Authorities such as command execution and network access can be controlled separately.
-
Critical changes may be subject to user approval before the transaction is completed.
These are general examples of secure design; It doesn't mean that every AI tool offers these checks automatically.
How can you work more securely on your own computer?
-
Download AI tools from official sources only.
-
Do not grant unnecessary administrator rights.
-
Back up your important projects.
-
Use a separate user account or isolated testing environment if possible.
-
Prefer the approval mechanism for operations such as deleting files, installing programs and sending data to external systems.
The most critical point: Even if a vehicle defines itself as safe, this does not mean that all risks are eliminated. Security depends on the privileges granted and how the operating environment is configured.
