You Can Stop Writing Code and Give Tasks to Artificial Intelligence: GitHub Copilot Can Now Work on the Project

Writing code with artificial intelligence is now just:

GitHub's current Copilot Cloud Agent feature can examine a software repository and work on the task in the background on eligible Copilot plans.

According to GitHub's documentation agent:

• Can search the Repository
• Able to create implementation plan
• Able to make code changes
• Can fix errors
• Able to improve testing coverage
• Can update documentation
• Able to work on technical debt
• Can create a branch and prepare changes
• Can proceed to the Pull Request process for the result.

How does it work?

The logic is this:

You give the task → AI examines the project → creates a plan → changes the code → examines the result.

For example, let's say you have a project on GitHub.

You can open an issue and assign a task like this:

“An error message is not displayed when the user enters the wrong password on the login page. Investigate the problem, make the necessary code changes and add a test.”

Agent can first examine the repository.

After:

1. Finds related files.
2. Detects the source of the problem.
3. Creates a change plan.
4. Works on code.
5. Can add necessary tests.
6. Can prepare changes on a branch.
7. Pull Request can proceed to creation stage.

The most important point: Don't blindly accept code written by AI

This is the critical part here.

Just because the Agent can write code does not automatically mean that the code it writes is perfect.

Specifically:

• Authentication
• Payment systems
• User authorization
• Database operations
• API security
• Encryption
• File upload
• Administrator rights

Why is Pull Request important?

Pull Request mechanism creates an important security layer here.

Instead of rolling over changes directly to the main code:

AI's change → Diff → Review → Test → Approval → Merge

This method allows you to check the changes the AI makes line by line.

Will this technology destroy software developers?
