How Many of the Same Photos Are There on Your Computer? Krokiet Finds Junk Files

Platform: Windows, macOS and Linux
Program: Krokiet — File analysis tool using Czkawka infrastructure

Imagine having thousands of photos on your computer. There may be three or four copies of the same photo in different folders. Downloaded documents, old project files, and large videos you no longer use can also fill up your storage space over time.

Finding them one by one could take hours.

Sketch is a graphical interface that uses Czkawka's file analysis engine and helps find junk files more easily.

The purpose of the program is not just to delete temporary files. Ensuring that you understand which contents take up unnecessary space by examining your files according to different criteria.

Krokiet's supported scanning types include:

• Finding duplicate files.

• To identify photos that are similar in appearance.

• Listing large files.

• Detecting empty folders.

• Find corrupt files.

• Examining temporary files and other unnecessary content.

• Searching for similar music or video files.

For example, you have been transferring photos from your phone to the computer for years. You may have re-copied the same photos on different dates. Krokiet can examine these files and help you see which ones are actually copies of each other.

Another area of use is video projects. You can manage your storage space more consciously by identifying large forgotten files in old projects.

Current status: Version 12.0 of Czkawka was announced as the final release of the old GTK-based graphical interface. The developer recommends switching to the new interface, Krokiet. Version 12.0.2 of Czkawka was released on September 9, 2026; Krokiet, on the other hand, uses the new graphical interface of the same analysis infrastructure.

Important notice: Two similar photos are not necessarily redundant. For example, different frames of the same scene or files with different resolutions may be valuable. Review the results and backup important files before deleting.
