• Standard weather apps on our phones usually just show a generic icon like “Partly cloudy today, 40% chance of rain”; However, when the sky darkens just as you are going to hang the laundry, wash the car, or go to the park with the kids, it does not tell you whether that rain cloud will stop by your neighborhood. Here is what most people just look at and pass by the classic prediction table General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) site there are actually two tremendous hidden heroes that show the minute-by-minute cloud and precipitation movement: Live Weather Radar and Highway Weather Forecast System (KHTS).

Working with instant data received from MGM's radar towers across Turkey Radar Images page displays live with a colored reflector map which district the rain, showers or hail masses are currently on and in which direction they are moving with the wind. If you are going to go on an intercity road, Highway Weather Forecast System, it shows you on a single route map at what time it will rain, fog or ice at all crossing points on the route.

• STEP BY STEP USE:

  1. From your browser https://www.mgm.gov.tr/ and click "Radars / Satellite"from the tab"Radar Images" (mgm.gov.tr/sondurum/radar.aspx) page.

It works on all computer and phone browsers (There is also an official "Meteorology Weather" app available on the App Store and Google Play). Since radar images are based on atmospheric measurements, regional outages may occur in mountainous areas or during radar maintenance hours.

• PRIVACY AND SECURITY: T.R. It is the official institution website of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. It does not request any personal data. In case of strong meteorological events (storm, flood, hail), instead of unconfirmed rumors on social media, "MeteoWarning" color coded official warnings should be followed.

• ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES AND WHOM IT IS SUITABLE FOR:

  • Advantages: Real-time data coming directly from official radar stations in Türkiye, hourly forecast according to travel route (KHTS), lightning tracking map, completely free.

  • Disadvantages: Technical terms (dBZ, PPI, Maximum) on the radar page require a first-time user to briefly look at the color scale (Green: light precipitation, Yellow/Red: heavy precipitation).

  • Who is it suitable for: Anyone making daily plans, drivers and long-haulers, outdoor shooting content creators, farmers and event hosts.

• BRIEF CONCLUSION: "Should I buy an umbrella or not?" or “Is there snow/rain on the road?” The most definitive answer to the question is not in foreign weather applications, but on MGM's live radar screen. On the first rainy day, turn on the radar animation and follow the cloud's arrival in your neighborhood live!
