Content: If a website has changed, there is a way to find out what it said in the past
You are searching for old features of a product, you cannot find an announcement published by a company in the past, or a page you previously accessed no longer opens. Wayback Machine is a tool for examining past archived copies of web pages. This service, run by the Internet Archive, can be used to research the change of pages over time.
Step by step usage
-
Enter the exact address of the web page whose archive you want to see in the search field.
-
If there are results, select an archived day from the calendar or date options.
-
Open the saved copy for that day.
-
Examine the page title, publication information and related text.
-
Note what has changed by comparing it with the current page.
-
If you are preparing research or content, record the date and address of the archive you accessed.
Example usage: When researching an old specification of a product that no longer appears on the manufacturer's page, you may find one of the product's past page copies.
Requirements and limits
-
Not every page or every date is recorded in the archive.
-
Some pages may not have been archived at all, have been recorded incompletely, or their images cannot be loaded.
-
An archival copy is not complete evidence of the entire contents of the page at that time.
