iPHONE: Put the Phone in a Simpler Usage Mode, Reduce Unnecessary Screen Clutter!
Does your iPhone's screen seem too cluttered? Want to prevent other apps from accidentally opening when handing the phone to an elderly family member, or ensure that only a few essential functions are easily accessible?
Apple's Assistive Access feature is designed to simplify the iPhone experience. You can show apps larger and more prominently, choose a row or grid layout on the home screen, and determine which apps are available. It was developed specifically for people with cognitive accessibility needs. Apple Support
How to install?
1. Open settings.
On iPhone, go to Settings → Accessibility.
2. Select Auxiliary Access.
In the list Assistive Access.
3. Start the installation.
Tap Set Up Assistive Access and follow the on-screen instructions.
Apple states that it may be beneficial to do the initial setup with the help of a trusted relative who knows the person who will use the phone.
4. Determine the home screen layout.
You can choose from two basic layouts:
- Lines: Applications are displayed in a more readable list layout.
- Grid: Applications are displayed in a grid with larger icons.
Choose the appropriate one according to the visual and cognitive needs of the person who will use the phone.
5. Determine the applications to use.
Add appropriate applications such as Calls, Messages, Camera and Photos. You can also edit options for which functions are available in supported applications.
Do not assume that all features of every application will work the same in Assistant Access.
6. Complete the password settings.
Set the device password and the password to use for Assistive Access. Carefully consider recovery options in case passwords are forgotten.
7. Start usage.
When the installation is complete, launch Assistive Access. Only the applications you select and the simplified interface appear on the screen.
8. Learn to return to normal use.
To exit Assistive Access, press the side button three times on iPhones with Face ID, or the Home button three times on other compatible models. Then the Auxiliary Access password is entered. Apple Support
In what situations is it useful?
- Helping a family member who is having trouble learning how to use an iPhone.
- When large and prominent application icons are preferred.
- When you want to limit the use of the phone to certain applications.
- In accessibility scenarios where a simpler interface is required.
Things to consider
Assist Access is not a complete security system that automatically restricts all features of each application. App permissions and privacy information may behave differently in this mode.
Before installation, determine the applications and output method to be used. If the password is forgotten and no recovery account has been set, it may require resetting the device.
