Selling Digital Products on Etsy: A Guide to Setting Up a Store Without Keeping Physical Stock
Since there are no stock, cargo and physical storage problems in digital products, the initial capital may be lower compared to physical e-commerce. For example, Canva templates, printable planners, CV templates, invitation designs, social media templates, spreadsheets or digital guides can be prepared.
The critical point here is not to "load the product" but to solve a problem that people are actually looking for. For example, instead of preparing “1000 Canva templates”, it is more logical to design a product for the needs of a specific customer group.
Per item for listing on Etsy $0.20 has a listing fee and the transaction fee is 6.5%. Payment processing fees vary by country. Etsy also applies a regulatory operating fee in some countries, including Türkiye. Current fees should be checked on Etsy's official fee page before selling.
Therefore, the calculation "I sold the product for 10 dollars, I earned 10 dollars" is not correct. Listing, transaction, payment processing, advertising, currency conversion and other fees, if any, may affect net income. Etsy also states a 2.5% currency conversion fee when using a listing and payment account in a different currency.
Initial cost: May be lower than design tools and platform fees.
Revenue: Calculated on sales quantity × product price, but platform fees, taxes, advertising and other expenses must be deducted. It is also possible that no sales will be made initially.
Tax: If regular digital product sales are made in Türkiye, the tax situation should be evaluated according to the type of activity. Generalizations such as "There is no tax because it is a digital product" should not be made.
Fraud risk: Be wary of people requesting payment from outside Etsy, fake copyright notices, and hacking links.
