Guessing Why Computer Is Slow, Catch It With Temperature Log: Hwinfo
Your computer slows down while gaming, but you can't find the reason
When you open a game, everything is normal for the first 10 minutes. Then the frame rate drops, the fans speed up, or the computer slows down unexpectedly.
HWiNFO doesn't just list hardware names; It can monitor processor and graphics card sensors, generate various reports, and log sensor data. This way, you can examine whether the issue coincides with temperature, power, or clock speed. HWiNFO
Step by step usage
1. Download the official version.
Download the Windows version from HWiNFO's official site. Check the sensor support of the hardware you are using.
2. Open sensor view.
Start the program and Sensors-only. This will take you to the window where the hardware sensors are listed.
3. Start recording.
Start Logging icon, the green plus button. Select a location to save the file and create a new CSV file.
4. Run the job experiencing the problem.
Run a game, video rendering, or processor-hungry application under conditions where you normally experience problems. Try not to change any other settings during testing; This makes it easier for you to compare the results.
5. Stop recording.
Stop sensor logging after testing ends. Open the CSV file in a spreadsheet program.
6. Compare related sensors.
Specifically examine the following data:
- CPU Package temperature
- GPU temperature and GPU Hot Spot if available
- CPU and graphics card clock speeds
- Power consumption
- Fan speed
It is not guaranteed that these values will appear with the same name on every hardware.
7. Find the tense of the question.
Examine temperature and clock speed changes that coincide with when performance drops. For example, a decrease in clock speed as the temperature rises may be a clue for you to investigate the possibility of thermal throttling. It is not a definitive diagnosis on its own.
Expected result
You can better understand the conditions under which your computer's performance problem occurs and obtain data to investigate possible cooling, power management or driver-related problems.
What should you do if it doesn't work?
- If sensors are not visible, check the compatibility of hardware and HWiNFO version.
- If you cannot find the CSV file, review the folder you selected when starting recording.
- If a value does not appear, consider that your hardware does not offer that sensor or the software does not support it.
- If the computer suddenly shuts down, the last log lines may be missing. No sensor log is guaranteed to catch every sudden temperature jump. HWiNFO
Licensing and data security
Standard editions of HWiNFO are free for personal and non-commercial use. According to the official licensing page, appropriate Pro license may be required for use in a commercial environment. Some features, such as automatic sensor logging from the command line, are also dependent on the Pro license. Don't confuse automatic command line registration with the manual registration method described in this guide. HWiNFO
