Making Money as a Virtual Assistant: 7 Services You Can Offer at the Computer

Not every internet entrepreneur, small business or content creator has the time to do all the daily work themselves. Tasks such as organizing emails, scheduling meetings, preparing files and tracking customer messages can be delegated to virtual assistants.

Virtual assistant is one of the business models where you can start selling services over the internet by gaining experience in a certain field.

What services can be offered?

1. Email and calendar management: Organizing the inbox, scheduling meetings and creating reminders.

2. Data entry: Editing tables, updating records and transferring information to systems.

3. Replying to customer messages: Answering basic questions in line with the rules set by the business.

4. Content planning: Calendaring social media posts and tracking publication plans.

5. Research: Researching competitors, products, suppliers or specific topics and reporting the results.

6. File and document editing: Preparing presentations, reports, spreadsheets and business documents.

7. Project tracking: Organizing task lists, deadlines and intra-team communication.

Rather than offering all these services at once, it makes more sense to focus on two or three services that you can do well.

How to get started?

First, learn to use basic office tools. Email, calendaring, spreadsheets, online document tools, and task management apps work well for most virtual assistant jobs.

Then prepare a sample portfolio. For example:

• An organized task tracking table
• Sample weekly content calendar
• Meeting planning template
• Response drafts for customer messages
• Sample research report

Do not share confidential information of real customers in the portfolio without permission.

Where to find a customer?

For example, on a completed order of $100, the freelancer's share would be $80 before other costs and taxes. This does not mean that the entire amount paid by the customer will be transferred to your account.

Initial cost

You can start at a low cost if you already have a computer, internet connection and basic office tools. Paid plans for some software or additional tools required by certain customer projects may incur costs.

How is income determined?

Hourly rate, price per task or monthly service package can be determined. For example, packages that include only e-mail management, a weekly research report or a certain number of social media planning can be prepared.
